U10’s back in action in North Antrim Indoor hurling.
On Saturday 8th February, the 2014 season started for our U10 hurlers when they represented the club in the annual North Antrim Indoor Hurling competition. This competition is a great start to the season and is great for getting the lads tuned into hurling again.
This week’s fixtures saw our team heading to St. Joseph’s College in Coleraine. The other teams attending were Eoghan Rua Coleraine, McQuillans Ballycastle (x2), St. Ergnatt’s Moneyglass, Robert Emmets Cushendun and Cuchullain’s Dunloy.
Squad: Noah Friel, Jamie McLaughlin, Patrick Mooney, Patrick Murray, Fintan O’Connell, Conhuir Johnson, Matthew Mullen, Maitiu Cairns
The 5-a-side games were fast and furious, as expected with indoor hurling, and were great to watch. The rust on the wheels was obvious in the first game, and we were hit for six by Eoghan Rua who looked to have had a good warm up before the competition started. However, following that our lads improved immensely and battled to secure two very good draws against McQuillans and St. Ergnatts. The remaining games were very close and the lads were very unlucky to lose by only one or two goals in each.
All eight of the boys got plenty of game time and thoroughly enjoyed the day. They are a great bunch to work with and are all very keen to play. Long may it last!
The graded play-off round is this weekend (15th / 16th) and I know our U10’s will be giving their all to finish in the top two and qualify for the finals in Ballymena the following weekend.
